Administration
Cindy DeAngelis is the Principal of Central College Christian School K-5. She has a BS.Ed in Speech Pathology and Audiology from Miami University. Cindy added her grades 1 - 8 teaching license and Masters Degree in Administration as her career progressed. Her 24 years in elementary education included 8 as a speech and language therapist and 16 as a teacher in grades 1 and 2. The last 13 years of her career were spent in administration, opening 2 new buildings for Olentangy as an assistant principal (4 years) and principal (9 years). Following her retirement, Cindy worked as an adjunct professor and student teaching supervisor for Capital University, Literacy Coordinator for Marion City Schools, and designed and delivered data driven professional development for Buckeye Valley Local Schools. Cindy was thrilled to have the opportunity to return to administration at Central College Christian School and lead the wonderful school that her grandchildren attend.
Kindergarten
Kindergarten Teacher Bethany Storts grew up in Westerville and attended Christian schools K-12. She continued in Christian, higher education and graduated in May 2018 from Mount Vernon Nazarene University with her bachelors in Elementary Education. She taught her first 2 years at a charter school in Columbus. While there, she taught 4th/5th Grade Science and Social Studies and Kindergarten. She has found her passion to be working with some of our youngest learners! Fun fact: Bethany attended CCCS from 2000-2002 for Kindergarten and First Grade.
Kindergarten teacher, Amie Whalen, holds a BSE from Otterbein University with a concentration in intervention. This is her seventh year teaching. Prior to working at CCCS, she was an intervention specialist at various schools working with students from preschool to third grade. Amie was born and raised in Westerville and has attended Central College for 26 years! Amie and her husband were married at Central College and are raising their two boys in the church. Her oldest son attends Central College Preschool, too! She is excited to show Christ’s love to all the children and share in her faith.
Ashley O’Brien joined the preschool staff in 2022, she has spent over a decade working with children, which has been an incredibly rewarding journey. Her husband and her are lucky to call Johnstown, Ohio their home sweet home, where they live with their two adorable pups, Copper and Dash. When she is not busy with her school kiddos, you'll find her hanging out with her friends and having a great time. Ashley absolutely loves cooking—”it's my way of expressing creativity and sharing love through delicious meals.” Ashley is thrilled to be a part of this school community, where she can continue making a positive impact on young minds, with her warm and nurturing spirit, she hopes to create a welcoming and inspiring environment for all the students she work with.
Kindergarten Aid William O'Brien has always enjoyed working with kids through VBS, Children’s Church, and Summer Camps! He grew up in Jacksonville, Florida and relocated to Ohio a few years ago. William resides with his wife, Ashley and their dog, Copper, in Westerville. When he’s not at school, He enjoys spending time with his family and plays the keyboard and sings on his church’s worship team.
Elementary
1st Grade Teacher Michelle Hickok holds her B.A. from Taylor University and M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction from Loyola University Chicago. She is currently in the Reading Endorsement program at Otterbein University. Previously, she taught First Grade and Kindergarten in the Chicago suburbs. She has also served as a Reading Tutor with AmeriCorps. Hickok resides in Westerville with her husband, Cliff, two daughters, son, and golden retriever. She enjoys spending time with family and drinking coffee as well as traveling and reading great books. Mrs. Hickok began teaching at CCCS in 2014.
Second Grade Teacher, Jen Kovach, holds a BA in Early Childhood Education from Ohio University and a M.Ed in Curriculum and Instruction from Indiana Wesleyan University. She was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio. She has been a certified teacher since 2003. In addition to CCCS, she has taught for Gaston County Schools in North Carolina, Findlay City Schools in Ohio, and Westerville City Schools. She lives in Westerville with her husband and two daughters. She is an active member of her church, St. Paul, and she enjoys opportunities to serve the community. In her free time, she enjoys Lake Erie, visiting friends and family, gardening, and walking her dog, Scout.
3rd Grade Teacher Christine Jajack holds a Bachelors of Education in PK-3 from the University of Toledo and Masters in Reading and a reading endorsement at Otterbein University. She began teaching at CCCS in 2007. Her favorite moments in teaching are watching as students grasp a new concept for the first time. Jajack lives in Westerville with her husband and three young children. She thinks it’s pretty cool to hear, “There’s Mrs. Jajack!” when she runs into students while out running errands.
5th Grade Teacher Khadine Byers holds a BA in Elementary Education, Grades 1-8, from Ohio Northern University. She has been at CCCS since 2007 and has over 20 years of teaching experience. Byers enjoys spending time with family, working on her house, reading anything she can get her hands on, playing games, hosting game nights, and playing competitive softball, tennis, and volleyball.
3rd Grade Teacher Polly Barnhardt holds a BA in Art Education and BS in Elementary Education K-8 from The Ohio State University. She began at CCCS in 2013. Previously she had taught at Central Ohio Christian School for 11 years, and then at Tree of Life Christian Schools for 15 years. She and her husband have three grown children and an incredibly loving dog. In her spare time she enjoys painting walls and interior design.
